The Governor signed two new Executive Orders this week, No. 152 & No. 153. The Executive orders specifically allow limited access to the inside of the Clubhouse. We are far from being back to normal, but at least the Clubhouse is permitted to be open!
However, after careful consideration the COVID Ad Hoc Committee determined that social events and meetings will not yet be allowed inside the Clubhouse because it is too difficult to control occupancy numbers, social distancing and mask wearing as required by the Executive Orders. Members may use the Commodore’s Room and the third floor independently to relax and enjoy the space - masks and social distancing are required. While the Clubhouse will be cleaned thoroughly once a day, members are requested to wipe down spaces and surfaces before and after use. The stewards will also walk through and wipe down surfaces several times a day. We are all responsible to keep our community safe.
The Junior Sailing and Scrambled Eggs teams are working hard planning their programs which are slated to begin on July 6th with mandatory staff training and other preprogram preparations happening the week prior. Both programs require significant alterations in order to comply with state mandated COVID restrictions and guidelines. Basically, the programs require more space than usual so they can accommodate smaller groups and stay physically distanced, along within a multitude of other COVID- specific operational requirements. The restrictions make it important for members to stay distanced from the kids participating in both the Scrambled Egg and Junior Sailing programs. Please note the following:
- Members who want to utilize the Commodore’s Room, third floor or front porch must enter from the north or south exterior stairs. The kitchen, the Regatta Room (the room outside the kitchen) and the interior stairway are closed to the general membership.
- The single handicapped bathroom and the North Head are open for use by the general membership. Since it is against the State’s COVID restrictions to intermingle groups, the men’s and women’s bathrooms in the Clubhouse will be reserved for use by the Youth Programs.
Other recent Executive Orders allow for larger (but still limited) groups to gather outside - all socially distanced and with masks. Committee Heads are working creatively to re-craft events and activities that were once thought to be impossible this summer! For instance, there will be a July 4th Bike Parade, followed later in the day by an evening Boat Parade! We also hope to have Happy Hours in July - but outside. More on how these and other gatherings might work later, with specifics communicated through Eggstras, on our website and through social media.

Thank you for your support and understanding as we navigate through this unusual summer.
